Privacy Policy

1. Overview

PDF Tools ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights. We built this service with a privacy-first approach: most tools process your files entirely in your browser and never send them to our servers.

2. File Processing

Browser-side tools (no upload)

Merge, Split, Extract Pages, Delete Pages, Reorder Pages, Rotate, Watermark, Add Page Numbers, PDF to JPG, JPG to PDF, and PDF to Text — these tools run entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your files are never transmitted to any server.

Server-side tools (temporary processing)

Compress PDF, Protect PDF, Unlock PDF, Word to PDF, Excel to PDF, PowerPoint to PDF, and HTML to PDF require server-side processing. Files uploaded for these operations are:

  • Processed immediately using Ghostscript or LibreOffice
  • Deleted from our servers immediately after the processed file is returned
  • Never stored, indexed, or shared with third parties
  • Held in memory for seconds at most

3. Data We Collect

We do not require accounts, logins, or personal information to use browser-based tools. Accounts and billing are required for paid Pro access. The data we may collect:

  • Account data: Email address, name if provided, plan status, and billing status for login, support, and access management.
  • Payment data: Payments are processed by PayPal, Dodo Payments, or another listed checkout provider. We do not store full card numbers. We may receive customer, subscription, invoice, and payment status identifiers needed to activate or support paid access.
  • Server logs: Standard web server logs (IP address, timestamp, requested URL) for security monitoring. Logs are retained for 7 days and then deleted.
  • Aggregate tool usage: When a finished file is downloaded, we record the tool name, processing type, date, and a one-way anonymous visitor identifier. We never record the document, filename, or document contents.
  • Aggregate conversion events: We record privacy-safe counts for upgrade prompt views, pricing visits, and upgrade clicks so we can improve the product. These events do not contain document or payment-card data.
  • Optional analytics: Google Analytics loads only after you select “Accept analytics.” If you reject or make no selection, it does not load.
  • Consent preference: Your analytics choice is stored in your browser's local storage so the site can remember it. We do not use advertising cookies.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Google Fonts (Geist font): Loaded from Google's CDN. Google may collect your IP address when the font is requested. Google Privacy Policy.
  • PayPal and Dodo Payments: Used to process paid Pro subscriptions, invoices, receipts, refunds, and payment compliance. Payment providers handle payment information under their own privacy and security policies.
  • Google Analytics: If you consent, we use privacy-oriented measurement settings to understand aggregate page and tool usage. You can reject analytics without losing access to PDF processing.

5. Children's Privacy

Our service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

6. Your Rights

Since we don't collect personal data beyond temporary server logs, there is nothing to access, correct, or delete. If you have questions about your data, contact us at the address below.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes. Continued use of the service constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
